Relationships - Winter ‘21

Dear Reader,

The end of this quarter marks one year since the start of the global pandemic. It also marks the end of my first year as an editor for The Planetmagazine.

I couldn’t be more proud of the work that the editors and staff of The Planet have created despite the strenuous circumstances of the past year. It has been an incredible honor to watch the magazine evolve and to see the growth and commitment of its participants.

Through it all, one thing has remained solid as ever: our relationship to and passion for The Planet. During the pandemic, relationships of all kinds have been put to the test. Some have broken, some have bent and some have come out stronger than before.

I think that our newest issue speaks to the power and importance of the things that hold us together. We are proud to present to you The Planet’s Winter 2021 issue — the Relationships Issue.

In the Relationships Issue, you will find stories of all kinds. We will share with you heartwarming ties between hopeful humans and threatened bats. We will take you to the foothills of Eastern Washington, where you will see how the relationships between humans, wild horses and the land have shifted. We will tell you of the Spokane Reservation’s past, and how it is irrevocably tied to the present.

You will read all this and more in the Relationships Issue. I hope that as you read you will reflect on the relationships of your own that have helped you through this past year.
